As part of its on-going 200th anniversary celebrations Laphroaig has announced the special and limited release of a 32-year-old expression.
Retailing at $1500 a bottle the exclusive whisky will be available at independent retailers and selected Dan Murphy's. Just 100 cases will be available in Australia from 28 October.
Narelle McDonald, Beam Suntory marketing manager for the Premium Portfolio said: "This is the ultimate luxury, and a perfect gift for the whisky aficionado. The richness of the liquid is truly spectacular and the complexity of flavours opens up with each taste. The nose offers a sherry sweetness, add a drop of water and spiced apples and bitter dark chocolate come to the fore.
"The bitter chocolate follows through to the palate as well as nutmeg and that beautiful oakiness. A lingering, sherried oak finish rounds out what is an incredible whisky by Laphroaig. It’s a once in a lifetime chance to attain a piece of history.”
The rare whisky has been aged in ex-Olorsos casks and is described as having a "rounded character and exceptional smoothness".
A further Laphroaig release will follow with the annual Cairdeas, which is produced from Laphroaig’s finest floor malting’s malt, distilled using only the smaller stills and fully matured in the Number 1 warehouse, which is located right by the sea. Cairdeas 2015 is Laphroaig master distiller John Campbell’s interpretation of how Laphroaig would have been produced at the distillery 200 years ago.
