Riverina-based company Meditrina Beverages has purchased the assets of large Australian winery Warburn Estate in a sale that is set to complete in March 2024.
The acquisition will see Meditrina Beverages, owned by the Taliano family, take ownership of the land, plant, equipment, trademarks and intellectual property, as well as the cellar door.
Managing Director Anthony Taliano commented on the purchase: “We are excited to announce this new venture for our family, and we are looking forward to working with local growers in the new year.
“The Sergi family has been an integral and respected leader in the wine industry in this region for over 55 years, and we hope to build on their good work. We wish them well in their future endeavours.”
First established in 1968, Warburn Estate has had four generations of winemakers with over 55 years of experience. According to Taliano, the Sergi family reached a decision to sell after numerous difficult years in the industry.
“Meditrina Beverages’ purchase of Warburn Estate site basically ensures continuity of existing business after a restructure and possibility of expansion into a range of different beverage areas,” he added.
Having previously worked for the company himself, Taliano was involved in winemaking and export sales from 1997 to 2005.
“Meditrina Beverages was the perfect accompaniment to continue operating the wine company,” he added.
“My understanding of the wine industry and the site complements my existing business operations at The Real Juice Company, Australia’s largest family-owned juice company established in 2003. The opportunity to combine wines and fruit juices under the one umbrella was an opportunity I couldn’t resist.”
Antonio Sergi, fourth generation of the Sergi family, welcomed the deal, saying: “It is time for us to step back, and to focus on our family. We welcome the Taliano family into the wine industry and know their passion for agricultural-based business in the local region, the brands and history of the company will continue under their family ownership. We know that they will have great success in this region and beyond.”
“We have great respect for the Sergi family and the impact they have had on the Australian wine industry. We are committed to honouring the Sergi legacy as we bring their portfolio of outstanding wines into our very own,” added Taliano.
So pleased the wine will keep coming. I’m a Syrah Dolcetto drinker & have been for some time. A lite BBQ type red, great taste, easy drinking. Good luck guys.
