Wayward Brewing is set to expand with the opening of a new cocktail and beer venue in the popular Sydney Inner West suburb of Marrickville.
Opening next week, the new upscale venue will serve cocktails and beers and also Vietnamese street food, in a big departure from the usual warehouse brewery venue associated with so many other craft brewers in the area.
Wayward said: “It’s an intimate venue designed to feel like a cosy home from home and, like the Wayward Taproom, it’s packed full of reminders of wayward travels around the globe, with vintage posters, plants and travel memorabilia adorning the walls.”
The Wayward Speakeasy will feature up to 10 taps of local brews, and alongside the favourites the Speakeasy Tap List will feature limited release and small batch beer from the brewery, as well as brews from their Local Drinks Collective partners, Batch Brewing Co.
The non-beer lovers are also catered for in the venue with a curated wine list and signature cocktail selection including cocktails inspired by Wayward and Batch beers like ‘Crime of Passion’, a combination of yuzu, vodka and passionfruit syrup that evokes Wayward’s Passionista seasonal beer. There’s also a cocktail which amps up Wayward’s hit favourite Tropical Mango Seltzer with Aperol and Peach liqueur.
Downstairs from the Speakeasy is the Local Drinks Collective bottle shop, offering a wide selection of local independent craft beer from around Australia and further afield. The shop has a carefully curated list of great Australian wines including a good range of natural wines and a selection of spirits and snacks. Patrons can bring anything that takes their fancy from the bottle shop upstairs into the Speakeasy for a small corkage fee.
Located less than 100m from Marrickville Station on Illawarra Road, recently proposed as Sydney’s official Vietnamese precinct, the Wayward Speakeasy bar will blend right in and serve up delights from their neighbours, VN Street Foods. Customisable Bento Boxes, Bun Cha and Stir Fried Beef Vermicelli Salad are all on the menu, all served fresh from the local Vietnamese eatery and delivered straight to the table.
The Speakeasy opens at 300 Illawarra Road on Thursday, 26 January.
