In a boost for its Australian business, independent distiller William Grant & Sons has been named 2011's 'Distiller of the Year' and 'International Spirits Producer of the Year' at the International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC) Awards.
In addition, Grant's Blended Scotch Whisky took three gold medals at this year's IWSC Awards and International Spirits Challenge (ISC).
William Grant & Sons (WG&S) Australia general manager Brian Sharp told TheShout the awards are a fillip for the local subsidiary, which has been operating independently since January 2011.
"We intend to invest in each of our brands in the next 12 months in the Australian market, innovating to showcase the strengths of our products," he said.
Sharp said that in the new year, WG&S aims to create more sampling opportunities for consumers.
In total, William Grant & Sons took home 56 awards – including three Trophies and 19 Golds with Glenfiddich leading the way, receiving Gold awards for every one of its core variants from 12-40 Year Old. The Balvenie 30 picked up the coveted Trophy for Single Malt Scotch Whisky Aged 15 Years and Over, as well as Gold Best in Class.
