This year’s Wine Australia scholarships for wine-focused PhD and Masters by Research students are now open for application.
Each year, Wine Australia provides scholarships to postgraduate students studying in the fields of wine, viticulture and wine business to assist new researchers in the sector.
Wine Australia General Manager Research, Development and Extension Dr Liz Waters said the scholarships are one of the ways that Wine Australia invests in the development of the next generation of leaders in the grape and wine sector.
“Wine Australia is committed to supporting young researchers and encouraging enthusiasm among the future leaders of oenology, viticulture and wine business research who will help support a prosperous Australian grape and wine community,” Dr Waters said.
Wine Australia’s PhD and Masters by Research scholarships provide up to $35,000 per annum for a student stipend and up to $10,000 per annum in operating funds.
Anyone interested in applying is advised to consult the Australian Grape and Wine Authority Strategic Plan 2015–2020 and the PhD and Masters by Research scholarship application guide when developing their applications. The documents are available on the Wine Australia and Research Australia websites respectively.
Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic excellence, the quality of an applicant’s Curriculum Vitae, the merit of the proposed research and the likelihood of the applicant’s ongoing involvement in the Australian wine sector.
Applications close on Friday 4 November 2016 and scholarships will commence from 1 January 2017.
