Wine Tasmania is inviting local venues highlighting Tasmanian wine to enter the sixth year of the 2023 Tasmanian Wine List of the Year Program.
The program highlights the importance of restaurants, bars, cafes, pubs and wine retailers in promoting Tasmanian wines to visitors. During the 12 months to March 2023, 24 per cent of all visitors to Tasmania called into a cellar door during their stay, reflecting the importance of wine to the overall visitor offering.
Wine Tasmania CEO Sheralee Davies spoke to the importance of the award.
“Tasmania’s restaurants, wine bars and wine retailers have a crucial role to play when it comes to showcasing our island’s produce and sharing our producers’ stories with visitors. Through the Wine List of the Year program, Wine Tasmania seeks to celebrate those venues that go the extra mile to share what it is that makes Tassie and its wine so awesome,” Davies said.
Venues stocking and promoting local Tasmanian wine are invited to submit to the 2023 awards program, with four key award categories recognising venues in Launceston, Hobart, regional areas, and venues with small but high-quality wine lists. The overall Judges’ Choice award will be chosen from these four winners, with the People’s Choice open to the public to vote for their favourite venue from a list of finalists.
“Our many small Tasmanian wine producers value the support of their friends in local hospitality and retail businesses and we look forward to promoting the finalists and award winners in 2023,” Davies continued.
Tasmanian on-premise and off-premise licensed venues of any size are invited to nominate at winetasmania.com.au/wloty2023 before 2 October 2023. People’s Choice voting will commence from 9 October, and winners will be announced on 13 November.
