Pinnacle Liquor Group, Woolworths’ exclusive brands business, has acquired a super premium Barossa Valley wine brand.
A Woolworths spokeswoman today confirmed that Pinnacle had purchased the Barossa Old Vine Company label from the Tanunda-based Langmeil Winery.
Langmeil sales, marketing & distribution manager James Lindner told TheShout the transaction comprised “literally just the brand and the stock that we had” and there were no vineyards or production facilities included.
Established by Langmeil a decade ago, the BOVC brand stable included just a single wine, a small volume Shiraz that typically retails at around the $100 mark and was consistently rated at between 92 and 96 points out of 100 by the world’s top wine critics.
“Our family business is Langmeil, and having a second brand was a potential confusion for us. We wanted to focus ourselves on Langmeil,” Lindner said of the transaction.
Woolworths already owns the Dorrien Estate winemaking facility in the Barossa.
