Tomorrow (May 6) represents the official start of World Cocktail Week 2010, a week which celebrates the history of the cocktail and the day (May 13) the word was first used in print.

Celebrations across the world are anchored by the Museum of the American Cocktail in New Orleans, an organisation which is dedicated to educating people about cocktail culture throughout history and today.

Numerous events are being held across Australia, including cocktail classes, parties and celebrations.

In Melbourne, 1806 bar will be highlighting the evolution of the Martini throughout May, with a different type of Martini showcased each week.

Sydney will play host to a plethora of activities, including at Merivale venues, which will feature daily cocktail masterclasses, as well as host the final of the ‘Magnificent Seven’ bartending competition on Thursday night (May 13) at ivy.

In addition, speakeasy bar Eau de Vie in Darlinghurst will host classes throughout, including a cocktail degustation evening on Wednesday (May 12).

There will also be Masterclasses at Cargo Bar, as well as a special event at The Vanguard in Newtown, hosted by cocktail company Mondo Bartenders.
