Yalumba presented the North Cottesloe Food and Wine Expo in Perth on Sunday, showcasing a selection of the Barossa winery’s current release leading wines, as well as labels from Western Australia, France, Spain, Italy and Victoria.
The 2012 Yalumba The Signature Cabernet Sauvignon and 2009 Yalumba Steeple Vineyard Shiraz were among two of the most popular wines on the day, alongside the 2013 Vasse Felix Heytesbury Chardonnay, Spain’s 2013 Villacampa Roble Tempranillo, France’s Champagne Pol Roger Brut Reserve NV and the 2012 Grasshopper Rock Pinot Noir from New Zealand.
Perth chef Don Hancey created a special menu for the event, with dishes including an Argentinian-inspired spit roast, quesadilla, herbed kipfler potatoes and a continental grazing table.
Samuel Smith & Son WA State Manager Dean Mitchell said the food and wine matching element of the event was a key component for attendees.
“A pre-release tasting of the limited edition Yalumba Galway Vintage Malbec 2012 proved extremely popular – the wine will be released nationally later this year and it was a perfect accompaniment to the spit roast,” he said.
“Overall almost 200 people flocked to North Cottesloe Surf Life Saving Club on Sunday, to experience what was arguably Australia’s best cellar door experience. We chose to showcase the very best current release wines from all of the world, alongside great local food and arguably the best view in Perth.”
