67 Pall Mall, a global private Members’ Club for fine wine, has announced plans to open its first outpost in the southern hemisphere in a deal worth $35 million.

Signing a lease for the top three floors of 85 Spring Street in Melbourne’s East CBD, 67 Pall Mall is set to open in mid-2025 and marks the largest property in the 67 Pall Mall portfolio.

The Melbourne outpost will offer Members almost 21,500 sqft of unprecedented access to fine wines through one of Australia’s broadest wine lists, with 5,000 by the bottle and 1,000 by the glass.

In a boost to the wine market in Victoria, Victorian wine producers will have the opportunity to be showcased throughout 67 Pall Mall’s global network of Clubs and expand their international reach. Some of the world’s top winemakers and châteaux owners will also provide masterclasses at the Melbourne Club.

Grant Ashton, Founder and CEO of 67 Pall Mall, spoke about decision to place the Club’s first southern hemisphere outpost in Melbourne.

“Melbourne offers an excellent new foothold for 67 Pall Mall in Australia and allows us to engage with a passionate wine culture and a knowledgeable collector community.

“Part of the reason we have done Melbourne ahead of Sydney was because you’ve got the overlay of a wine city and a big city. Melbourne is the ultimate crossover city for us with five million plus people and wineries less than an hour away.

“Joining our Clubs across Europe and South East Asia, 67 Pall Mall Melbourne will be the city’s first private Members’ wine club and expand Melbourne’s rich hospitality offering. This is a striking property that offers views across the city from a fantastic central location at Spring Street, and like each of our properties, provides a dramatic backdrop to enjoy some of the finest wine found anywhere in the world.”

Occupying the top free floors of 85 Spring Street, the Melbourne Club will create distinct and unique settings over each level. Centering around a 7.5 metre decadent wine feature wall, the Club will include private rooms, a dedicated whisky-focused cocktail bar and open-air balconies with views of Melbourne cityscapes.

85 Spring Street

The Club has received strong support from the State of Victoria, Invest Victoria, and Melbourne Lord Mayor Sally Capp who embraced the news of the opening: “Melbourne means business, which is why we welcome the investment of 67 Pall Mall as it establishes its new wine club at 85 Spring Street. This addition to our hospitality scene will add to Melbourne’s vibe as a hospitality hub while generating jobs and attracting more visitors.”

Colliers’ Director of Retail Leasing, Adam Lester, said: “67 Pall Mall complements Melbourne’s Paris end of the CBD perfectly. Not only does this affirm Melbourne’s reputation as a leader in the global hospitality scene, but the Paris end has established itself as Australia’s hospitality mecca, being the preference for acclaimed operators.

“Our records show that this represents the largest F&B deal concluded in the CBD in over a decade. While there have been multiple large-format entertainment tenants entering the market recently, there has been nothing of this scale in the Melbourne CBD for dedicated F&B and hospitality space.”

67 Pall Mall will continue to expand globally with the launch of En Primeur Membership set to commence in Hong Kong from January 2024, with five additional sites set to open in the next seven years across Europe and Asia, including the Melbourne outpost.
