In a celebration of ‘Queensland pride’ XXXX is replacing its logo on Maroons shirts with regional postcodes from the state.
XXXX, which is produced by brewing giant Lion, said in a press statement that the jerseys will feature ‘communities close to hearts, with players wearing their postcode of origin on their sleeves.’
Chris Allan, XXXX Brand Director, expressed his pride at showcasing communities across Queensland.
“XXXX has been a proud Queenslander for 144 years, and one of the things that makes it great is its communities.
“The Maroons are running out on the pitch representing all of the regions, and we wanted to bring some recognition of this to the Origin arena,” Allan continued.
Kurt Capewell, a native of Queensland’s Charleville, will be wearing his hometown’s postcode on his sleeve during Game Two on June 26. Capewell articulated his joy at being able to represent his region.
“Charleville is where I started my rugby league journey, so it’s a real honour to play for the Maroons and wear the 4470 postcode on my sleeve,” he said.
“It’s a fantastic initiative and one that the QRL and XXXX should be extremely proud of. These communities are close to our hearts and it’s a fitting tribute to the places that make this state great.”
As part of this campaign, XXXX has produced a three-part docuseries that focuses on the communities of Bundaberg, Barcaldine and Charleville. The series will premiere on game days, and is available at the XXXX website.
Allan concluded by stating that he hoped that Maroons fans would enjoy the game with an enhanced connection to the action.
“However you celebrate Origin this year, whether it be with mates at home or at the pub with a XXXX in hand, cheer on the Maroons and all the towns right across the state that fill us with that Queensland pride.
“Maybe a postcode important to you will be on the jersey,” he said.
