Australian sommeliers will get to put their knowledge and skills to the test this September when the Court of Master Sommeliers returns to host courses in both Sydney and Melbourne.
Just 50 places are available in each city for the intensive two-day Introductory Certificate and Examinations.
Attending Master Sommeliers will include worldwide CEO Brian Julyan from the UK, Evan Goldstein from the US and Cameron Douglas from New Zealand.
The Court of Master Sommeliers has been conducting their examinations since 1969 in the UK and a chapter was formed in the US in 1977.
Last year saw the inaugural Australian courses, facilitated by Fine Wine Partners, which is also running Australia’s Wine List of the Year Awards.
Fine Wine Partners chairman Rob Hirst said the company recently ran a series of workshops to launch this year’s program, offering potential candidates a taste of what to expect.
“It was great to see the high level of interest in the Court’s curriculum with its focus not only on theory but also practical skills; tasting, service and salesmanship,” he said.
Attaining the Certified Sommelier title is the first step toward becoming a Master Sommelier – the ultimate accreditation offered by the Court.
The Melbourne course will run from September 17 to 18, with the Certified Sommelier Examination on September 19.
The Sydney course will follow, from September 22 to 23, and the exam on September 24.
