Coles is seeking approval from Australia's competition watchdog for its Liquorland subsidiary's proposed acquisition of a retail outlet currently trading as Cellarbrations in Pinjarra, Western Australia.

As a condition of the deal, Liquorland would be required to surrender the Cellarbrations store's lease and cease trading at the existing location in Pinjarra Junction to enable a redevelopment of part of the shopping centre.

It is unclear where the retailer proposes to move the licence to, but Coles already has a supermarket within the centre.

Liquorland has an existing outlet a few kilometres away in Pinjarra town centre.

The closing date for submissions from interested parties is this Friday, August 16.
