Adelaide bartender Owen Colin will fly to Amsterdam next month and take on nine world-class mixologists in the Bols Around the World Cocktail Competition.

Colin, who works at Farina Kitchen & Bar, was selected from a national elimination heat held in May last year in which bartenders from around the globe were challenged to create a cocktail that best captured the character of their nation. His winning entry, the Bush Fire Martini, featured Bakery Hill Peated Malt Cask Strength Whisky, Bols Apricot Brandy, lemon juice, candied kumquats and dried eucalyptus leaves.

“I am overwhelmed by the support of not only my industry, but of the Australian public to have voted and ensured my place in this prestigious competition,” Colin said. “It is such a fantastic opportunity and I am looking forward to bringing back to Adelaide some innovative techniques and ideas.”
