A leading Adelaide bar has announced the launch of a new bartending society for the South-Eastern capital.

Called the Adelaide Spirit Society (A.S.S), the group is the brainchild of Cushdy cocktail bar owner Shaun Pattinson, who has already been successfully hosting the monthly Adelaide Rum Club and ‘Cocktail 101’ training courses for the past 18 months.

“We found that as much fun as the Adelaide Rum Club was we were obviously limiting ourselves to the number of spirits we could talk about and were getting requests from people to do sessions on other products,” said Pattinson. “The Adelaide Rum Club will live on, just under the umbrella of A.S.S.”

Commencing next Monday (Oct 11), the first meeting will be hosted by well-known tequila expert Phil Bayley, who is flying in from Sydney for the occasion and will feature a cocktail on arrival, followed by a tequila masterclass.

Open to both trade and members of the public, the A.S.S will continue to meet on the first Monday of each month.

“I hope the hospitality community of Adelaide see it is a great way to broaden their knowledge and at the same time meet with other industry people,” added Pattinson. “I’m particularly looking to the bar owners in Adelaide to promote A.S.S to their staff as a way to improve their bartending skills and become more involved in the industry.”
