ADT Security has designed a new range of retail security tags based on customer feedback. Developed to address the key requirements of retailer’s, the Sensormatic Bottle Tag (Ultra Tag MT) is easy to use, highly secure and has minimal impact on product presentation.

Part of the Sensormatic Ultra Tag portfolio, the Bottle Tag is a multi-purpose device suited to a wide range of products with particular benefits for wine and spirits bottles. Asia-Pacific retailers ranked spirits as the most heavily-stolen product in 20071 ahead of cosmetics, womenswear and perfume. Electronic tagging of merchandise was the security method most used on spirits (51.2%) but retailers admitted that 38.6% of spirits were still not protected at all.

The Bottle Tag is specifically designed to eliminate the realignment of product shelving and consists of a rigid ABS plastic housing coupled with a multi-strand steel cable nylon strap for significant security against theft. Incorporating Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS), the tag alerts retail staff by setting off an alarm if a tagged item is removed from the store without first being deactivated. At the checkout, the tag can be simply and quickly removed by staff using a small profile decoupler which maximises space at the point-of-sale and can be either recessed or secured to the counter top.

In a three store, three month trial by Colombian retail giant Almacenes Éxito, the Bottle Tag helped cut the theft of bottled wine and spirits by more than 80 percent. With a retail footprint of 273 stores in 45 cities throughout Colombia and annual revenue of USD $2.9 billion, Almacenes Éxito says the device met the chain’s objectives to increase sales while reducing shrink.

According to Luis Castaneda, the chain’s Loss Prevention Manager, “The idea now is to standardise this type of protection across the entire company. The Sensormatic Bottle Tag has given us the freedom to display products openly to customers, standardise product displays and reduce losses while increasing sales.”

While saving Almacenes Éxito staff significant time in protecting stock, the tag’s easy detachment also saves staff time at the register while helping helping customers proceed through check-out faster.

Sensormatic uses Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) for all tagging ensuring any product removed from a store without being deactivated will set off an alarm. ADT Security is the exclusive supplier of the Sensormatic brand.
