The Australian Hotels Association NSW has advised that John Whelan has been appointed CEO on a permanent basis.

Whelan, who has been with the association since 2008, has been in the position of acting CEO since April this year.

He told TheShout this morning that his approach will be based on the need for fairness and equity by government when dealing with industry issues.

"Evidenced-based policy must be the basis for decisions, rather than hysteria and headlines," he said. [continues below]

“We have a tremendous story to tell about a proactive industry that’s grappling with whole of society issues that – often – are unrelated to us and beyond our control. However, we are committed to be a part of the discussion and will step up to the plate where needed."

“Over the next few months I’m really looking forward to getting out and about to meet with hoteliers, particularly in country and regional NSW,” Whelan said.

The announcement was made to delegates at yesterday's AHA NSW council meeting.
