The third ever contest to find the Best Sommelier of Asia and Oceania will take place in November 2015, with Australia to be represented by Banjo Harris Plane of Attica in Victoria.

Harris Plane beat 11 other sommeliers to the Australian title late last month, with Adrian Filliuta of Felix Bistro and Bar in NSW and Sarah Ward of Rockpool Bar and Grill Melbourne.

The Asia region competition will be staged in November next year, with the global competition to follow in April 2016.

Harris Plane said the Sommeliers Australia competition was “a real test of nerves and knowledge”.

“I was happy to be in such good company in the finals, and thrilled with the overall outcome.”

Franck Moreau MS, Vice President of Sommeliers Australia and group sommelier for Merrivale, won the previous Asia and Oceania regional competition in South Korea in 2012.
