Australian brewer Lachlan MacBean has been appointed to the judging panel of the BrewNZ — the New Zealand brewing awards.

MacBean is a member of Bluetongue Brewery’s quality control committee, where he has worked since 2004. He recently represented Bluetongue at the International Brewers and Distillers Guild Conference in Auckland and is the only Australian invited to judge BrewNZ.

“I was thrilled and humbled by the opportunity to be one of only eight brewers to judge at this event in New Zealand,” MacBean said. “My fellow judges are industry leaders from around the world coming from as far away as Sweden and the USA, so I feel very privileged to be in their company.”

BrewNZ is now in its seventh year of competition, with more than 210 beers entered from national and international breweries. Over 23 breweries will be represented at the event that runs from Tuesday (September 2) though to Saturday (September 6) at Wellington’s Chaffers Marina.

Judging will take place over the first three days, with awards to be announced on Thursday night (September 4) at the Embassy Theatre.

This will be followed by Beervana at the Overseas Passenger Terminal in Wellington, where more than 1000 beer lovers will visit the consumer tasting event over the two days.
