Angostura will host its bi-annual Cocktail Challenge in Trinidad and Tobago on March 6 with bartender Andy Griffiths ensuring that Australia is represented at the World Championship.

The winner of the challenge will receive US$10,000 and a year-long contract as Angostura’s global brand ambassador.

Griffiths, who won the Australian final in November last year with his drinks ‘Margadale Dram’ and ‘St Andrew’s Flip’, will be competing against nine contestants from around the world.

Great Aussie Hope Andy Griffiths

He told TheShout he was excited about arriving in Trinidad to vie for the winner’s title.

“I have been researching the other contestants a bit, I can’t wait to meet them, but most of all can’t wait to beat them,” he said.

The Collingwood resident is the cocktail bar manager for Cookie in central Melbourne and has been a bartender for over 10 years.

He will fly out from Melbourne tomorrow (March 1) and his itinerary includes a guided tour of the Angostura factory, attending a party at the home of West Indian cricketing great Brian Lara and taking an island cruise.
