A Tasmanian whisky has claimed a significant accolade by becoming the first Australian whisky to be imported into the United States.

The Lark Distillery last week (Nov 22-26) announced an exclusive five-year export contract to supply their single malt whisky to the Chicago-based spirits importer Marsalle Company.

The Distillery’s director of sales and marketing Ross Dinsmoor described the agreement as a 'great opportunity'.

“There is real interest in our artisan-style of distilling,” he said.

“My Marsalle counterpart, Rob Imperial, has trialled our Tasmanian whisky with a number of leading industry professionals and has secured placement in some of America’s foremost restaurants, bars and specialty liquor retailers.”

The Lark will export 750ml bottles of 43 percent AV Single Malt, 46 percent AV Distillers Selection and 58 percent AV Cask Strength Single Malt Whisky, which will be distributed throughout San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami and New York from early 2011.
