Bars across the world will be celebrating the birth of the cocktail as World Cocktail Week officially kicks off at Hugos in Sydney tonight (May 6).

Cities as far-flung as Seattle and Warszawa in Poland will continue celebrations honouring mixology’s 200-year history throughout the week.

Luxe Bar in Perth and Sky Room in Brisbane will host two evenings, while Melbourne bar 1806 will host the closing party on May 13.

Guest presenters throughout the week will include The Lark’s Ryan Noreiks in Brisbane and Blue Diamond’s Tim Wastell in Melbourne.

Tonight’s celebrations at Hugos will include presentations by Pernod Ricard’s Ben Davidson, The Beresford’s George Nemec and ivy’s Pierre Fajloun, who will showcase some of history’s finest cocktails, like the Martini and the Bobby Burns.

World Cocktail Week is promoted and organised by the not-for-profit Museum of the American Cocktail.
