In an effort to give Australians their own signature drink – in the way that Russians have vodka and Mexicans have tequila – Vantage Australia has launched a new "Australian" spirit.

Created with Australian botanicals – lemon myrtle, Tasmanian mountain pepperberries and a hint of Australian imperial mandarin oil – Vantage Australia “has the ability to cut across traditional spirit genres”, making it useful for twisting classic cocktails as well simply being served on the rocks.

Drawing inspiration from the Australian outback, Vantage uses native flora with its smoky favour coming from natural bushfoods to create a spirit that is both “sweet and dry”.

The packaging is also patriotic, with the 700ml bottle artwork “inspired by the Australian pioneering spirit” and the one-litre bottle depicting the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

The spirit is available in travel retail and selected Dan Murphy’s stores.
