Bacardi Lion has launched award-winning premium cachaca Leblon into Australia, in a bid to grow and develop the spirit category locally.

Bacardi Lion marketing manager, Michael Lloyd, said the company is confident Leblon will complement its existing portfolio of premium products.

According to Bacardi Lion, cachaca is the third most consumed spirit in the world and one of the fastest growing segments in the industry. As part of the launch the company will be hosting several lunchtime tasting sessions for bartenders including one on February 13th at Sydney’s Longrain Bar.

"Australia has a rich and vibrant community of bartenders not afraid to experiment with new liquids and push the boundaries of cocktail-making with quality products," Lloyd said.

"Leblon offers them a fantastic opportunity to find new and interesting flavours to experiment with."

Leblon is distilled in Patos de Minas, in the Minas Gerais region, under the watchful eye of Master Distiller Gilles Merlet, who uses a similar process to that of winemakers in his homeland of France.

After undergoing alambique batch distillation, light casking, triple filtering and blending, the final distillate is rested in XO Cognac casks to give it a fruity nose, complex layers of flavour and an ultra-smooth finish.
