After brewing away for months, the HotClub Barista Cup has drawn to a close with the winner determined and announced at the Australasian Gaming Expo (AGE).

Dozens of entrants from hotels, bars and clubs around New South Wales competed for an assortment of prizes, showcase their coffee-making skills in the preparation of six coffee offerings, including their own ‘specialty’ coffee.

The competition is a deliberate attempt by creator, John Hennessy of Hennessy Coffee, to raise awareness and the standard of specialty coffee making in licensed venues.

Paul Jing of Revesby Workers’ Club took out first prize in the HotClub Cup.

Coffee consumption in Australia has increased dramatically in the past ten years (industry figures of up to 65 percent) and is a profitable revenue stream largely un-tapped in hotels and pubs.
