Appleton Estate Jamaica Rum has been awarded ‘Spirit of the Year’ award and ‘Distillery of the Year’ at the World Spirit Awards held recently in Austria.

The brand received a total of five medals, including four gold medals and one double gold medal.

Appleton Estate V/X Jamaica Rum, Appleton Estate Reserve Jamaica Rum, Appleton Estate Extra 12 Year Old Jamaica Rum and Appleton White Jamaica Rum all received gold medals in the competition while Appleton Estate 21 Year Old Jamaica Rum received a double gold medal, was named ‘Best in Category’ and was awarded a ‘Spirit of the Year’ honour.

In addition, the Appleton Estate distillery was awarded a ‘Distillery of the Year’ award and a ‘World Class Distillery’ designation.

In commenting on the performance of the Appleton Estate Jamaica Rum brands in the World Spirit Awards, Paul Henriques, managing director of J. Wray & Nephew Limited, said he was very proud that the Appleton Estate Jamaica Rum brand had continued to perform at the highest level in international competitions.

“We are very proud of the international accolades that our brands have received this year and in particular our performance at this year’s World Spirit Awards which is a remarkable achievement and a testament to the commitment of our team to producing rums of the highest quality,” he said.

“We are very fortunate in that we are one of the very few rum producers in the world that own, and therefore have control, of each step in the process.”

A total of 337 spirits representing 33 countries took part in the World Spirit Awards 2011.
