Bob Powell, formerly of companies including Casella Wines, Tyrrell's and Pernod Ricard, has been appointed general manager of the Hunter Valley's Oakvale Wines.

Oakvale winemaker James Becker said the new appointment marks a significant milestone for the company, which has reinvigorated its winemaking and launched a new cellar door.

"We are looking forward to Bob joining the team. His role will be to help guide the business forward, through the harnessing of the team's experience, with innovative marketing and quality viticulture and winemaking."

Powell will be joined by Dr Stewart Field, who has been appointed the Oakvale's vineyard manager.

"Stewart's practical and intellectual understanding of vine physiology is demonstrated in his studies in California, New Zealand and culminating in attaining his doctorate at Charles Sturt University in NSW," Becker said.

"Stewart's extensive research in viticulture in NSW will help us achieve the highest quality of fruit from our Hunter vineyards."
