An exhibition showcasing the 2009 Bombay Sapphire Design Discovery Awards finalist’s work opens in Sydney today (Nov 9).
Running until November 28, the exhibition features designs by the 10 finalists, including Adam Cornish, David Knott, and Helen Kontouris.
Currently at Establishment bar’s Gin Garden, the exhibition will tour Melbourne and Brisbane early next year.
Now in its seventh year, the Discovery Awards are dedicated to recognising and rewarding excellence in design, as well as improving and promoting awareness of design within Australia.
"Bombay Sapphire’s striking blue bottle represents the importance of aesthetics for the brand,” said Bombay Sapphire brand manager Fernando Navarro. “In response to the consumer’s recognition of the Bombay bottle as a design and style icon, the Bombay Sapphire Design Discovery Award was created to reward emerging design talent in Australia.”
This year’s exhibition will be moving outside of the traditional gallery space into a more mainstream environment, exposing up-and-coming designers to the design community and beyond," he added.
The winner will be unveiled at an exclusive dinner next Wednesday (Nov 18).
In addition to a $30,000 grant, they will also receive a trip to Milan, Italy to attend the prestigious Salone del Mobile furniture fair.
Four runners-up will receive $2,500 each and the five further finalists will each receive $1,000.
