Melbourne's 1806 has announced the return of prodigal son Nick Reed who has spent the last two-and-a-half years in Edinburgh, Scotland, where he helped open The Raconteur with good friends Jamie MacDonald and Teddy Joseph.

Reed rejoined the 1806 team just over a month ago as a bar manager, alongside Andy Wren, with both of them committed to maintaining the venue’s high standards of customer service and cocktail excellence.

Team Scotland, with Nick Reed on the right, work on a wine cocktail challenge at the recent Cocktail World Cup.

Implementing a number of skills he honed during his time in the UK, Reed says one of his first tasks will be “a revamping of the menu with some new drinks both classic and modern and an ‘out of the box’ mentality regarding how to serve them.”

Reed also plans to get the 1806 bar team involved in major cocktail competitions throughout Australia, inspired by his participation in bartending competitions over the past few years.

Just recently he formed part of the Team Scotland squad that competed, and came third, at the 2011 42 Below Cocktail World Cup.
