Brokenwood Wines is celebrating after Chief Winemaker Stuart Hordern was awarded the First Creek Winemaking Services 2024 Winemaker of the Year at this year’s Hunter Valley Legends Awards.

The Legends Awards, which were heled at Rydges Resort Hunter Valley, honour the Hunter’s rich and vibrant history and celebrate the people who continue to help the region build a lasting legacy.

Speaking about the win, Hordern said: “It is with great pleasure and humility that I have received this award. It is a testament to the hard work and dedication we pour into every bottle at Brokenwood.

“This recognition highlights the high regard in which our wines are held, both critically and commercially, and celebrates the remarkable success that we have achieved over the past 12 months”.

Hordern boasts a strong winemaking history, including 15 vintages at Brokenwood and 10 in charge, promoted recently to the role of Chief Winemaker, only the second person in the 54-year history of the company to hold this position.

Notably, he led Brokenwood to an exceptional 2023 show circuit, winning 5 Trophies and 24 Gold medals, as well as the 2023 Decanter World Wine Awards Best in Show for the 2017 Brokenwood ILR Reserve Semillon.

The awards recognised many others who contribute to the Hunter Valley’s strong reputation, including two new Hunter Valley Living Legends.
