Wine producer Brown Brothers has announced that it will assume full ownership of MGM Wine Distributors from April 1.

Based in Western Australia, MGM Wine Distributors was established in 1992, at which time Brown Brothers became a silent partner in the business.

However, the company now feels the time has come to take a more hands-on approach to its Western Australian operations.

“With more and more wine being sold through national supermarket chains and national banner groups, we felt it was important for us to adopt a truly national market strategy,” said Brown Brothers general manager, Roland Wahlquist.

“MGM is a very good business and we will be utilising all the skills and resources we have available to us to ensure this exciting initiative has a positive impact on both our customers and other brand owners. “

MGM senior partner, Lloyd Meredith, said it was an exciting time for the business and expected a smooth transition.

“I have no doubt it will be ‘business as usual’ from 1 April – the business will continue to trade under the MGM name and will continue to distribute its strong portfolio of brands alongside Brown Brothers,” said Meredith.

Both Meredith and business partner Karen Green will stay on in a consulting role to assist in the handover to Brown Brothers.
