The Brown-Forman Corporation announced the completion of its purchase of Spanish gin brand Gin Mare on 3 November.
The brands were purchased from Vantguard and MG Destilerías at an undisclosed price.
Lawson Whiting, President and CEO of Brown-Forman, was thrilled by the acquisition, which the company the agreement of which had initially been announced in September of this year.
“We are excited to welcome Gin Mare and Gin Mare Capri to Brown-Forman’s super-premium portfolio,” Whiting said.
“As a unique gin with a distinctive taste profile, Gin Mare is an exciting addition to our company and we believe it will contribute positively to our growth and success.”
Gin Mare was founded in 2010, and is distilled a little outside Barcelona, with a focus on Mediterranean botanicals including Arbequina olives, thyme, rosemary, and basil. Last year, Gin Mare introduced Gin Mare Capri, a citrus-influenced version of Gin Mare’s standard edition. The brand is described by Brown-Forman as ‘the world’s No. 1 ultra-premium gin’.
Production will continue at the Gin Mare’s current home, the MG Destilerías in Vilanova i la Geltrú, a fishing village between the Costa Brava and the Costa Dorada.
This announcement follows news last month that Brown-Forman had reached an agreement to purchase Diplomatico Rum.
