Bushmills Irish Whiskey has released a limited-edition 2012 Burgundy Cask, which is the first release from the distillery’s new Master Blender Alex Thomas.

Forming part of the 2022 Causeway Collection the 2012 Burgundy Cask has been created for The Whisky Club and follows the release of the 2006 Marsala Cask and 2011 Banyuls Cask.

Thomas said: “The Causeway Collection is a celebration of our passion for single malts and these special single malt whiskeys are our greatest treasures.”

“It truly is a privilege to work with such rare whiskeys. At Bushmills we hand select casks that give an insight into the depth and breadth of casks we have at the Old Bushmills Distillery.

“The 2012 Burgundy Cask is a sensational liquid, I honestly think that this is one of the best whiskeys that Bushmills have produced to date, and I can’t wait to share it with Australia’s biggest community of whiskey lovers.”

Matured in oloroso sherry and bourbon casks at the Old Bushmills Distillery in Northern Ireland in 2012 before ageing in burgundy wine casks in 2018, the 2012 Burgundy Cask is described as “fragrant with summer fruit aromas with notes of fresh raspberry, and a black cherry and vanilla finish”.

Launching globally in 2020, the Bushmills Causeway Collection has fast gained a cult fan base among whiskey lovers across Australia.

Seamus Carroll, The Whisky Club’s Buyer and Ambassador said: “The whiskey world went nuts when we released the very first whiskey in The Causeway Collection, our 2006 Vintage Marsala Cask which sold for up to 20 times its RRP at auction. The same happened last year with the 2011 Vintage Banyuls Cask, selling out in just 48 hours. And history is about to repeat itself with our 2012 Burgundy Cask.

“Each of the whiskeys in this series have been finished in rare, heritage wine casks seldom used in whiskey making. Our 2012 Burgundy Cask is really something else — this is Burgundy from a Domaine dating back to the 1400s. It’s incredible, Bushmills have access to casks that very few distilleries can get their hands on.

“Needless to say, as the third release in the history-making trilogy, we’re anticipating strong demand and encourage those who want to get their hands on some to sign up quickly to ensure they don’t miss out.”
