Campari Australia will integrate the sales, marketing and distribution of Averna into its portfolio from 1 January 2016.

Averna is an authentic Italian digestif, which is deep brown in colour with red golden hints. It was created by Benedictine monks in Caltanissetta, Sicily, and gifted to textile merchant Salvatore Averna by friar Fra' Girolamo in 1868.

While its unique blend is known only to a select few, Averna is created from an infusion of aromatic herbs, natural spices and roots. The only known ingredients of Averna are citrus essential oils (orange and lemon) and pomegranate.

Opening citrus notes mixed with scents of Mediterranean herbs such as myrtle, juniper, rosemary, sage and aromatic resins give this digestif a velvety and rounded texture leaving a pleasantly smooth after taste.

Averna is 29 per cent ABV and is traditionally served either neat or on the rocks. It will retail at $45 for a 700ml bottle.

Franco Peroni, managing director of Campari Asia Pacific, said the company was excited to be adding the iconic Italian brand to its portfolio.

"Averna is well aligned with Campari's ongoing commitment to deliver the very best premium brands and service to our customers and consumers. We look forward to working with our trade customers to build the profile of this brand in the Australian market over the coming years," said Peroni.
