New distributor Proof Drinks Australia has launched one of its first brands into the Australian market – Cazcabel Tequila.

The premium brand comes from the philosophy of Don Cazcabel, a mythical Mexican curador know as the ‘snake man’ of the Jalisco mountains. Such philosophy was to take natural ingredients from the land and give them new meaning and life. Four generations have since carried on the pursuit of crafting a tequila in this way, with Cazcabel’s master distiller using locally grown, seven year old Blue Weber agave in the micro-distilled range.

The Cazcabel debut comes with four different products. There’s the core Blanco and Reposado, both with an ABV of 38 per cent, as well as flavoured varieties of Coffee and Honey, both at 34 per cent ABV.

Luke Frost, General Manager of Proof Drinks Australia, said: “We’re so excited to launch one of the fastest growing and popular tequila brands in Australia. Our aim is to offer a range of authentic premium tequilas that allow consumers to explore the category in new and exciting ways.

“Cazcabel’s range, particularly the flavours, opens up tequila to new drinking occasions beyond late night and can be sipped neat or savoured in cocktails. With international travel off the cards for the foreseeable future, what better way to experience Mexico?”

During a virtual launch of the range, Frost spoke of the opportunity that Proof Drinks Australia sees for the range here.

“Cazcabel, while it’s not well known here (and that will change), is responsible for 24 per cent of sales through Amazon UK… why is that important? With lockdown last year, e-commerce became extremely popular as a channel for sourcing alcohol. This popularity has now extended into the on-premise, so there’s massive demand there. You can understand why we’re excited to be launching the range here in Australia,” he said.

Cazcabel describes the range as complementing a number of classic cocktail flavours, and suggests creating a Mexican twist on drinks such as a Negroni or Espresso Martini, or heroing the range in tequila based cocktails like the Margarita or Paloma.
