Widespread reports that Coca-Cola Amatil (CCA) is mulling the acquisition of the Foster’s Group are completely baseless, a CCA spokesperson said today.
Rumours of an acquisition resurfaced last week after CCA chief executive, Terry Davis, used the ‘F’ word while hinting his company was considering a second attempt to acquire the beverage business of Cadbury Schweppes.
"You’ve even got Foster’s playing around in beverages," Davis said at CCA’s annual general meeting last week.
A spokesperson for Foster’s in Melbourne confirmed the reports were purely speculative and refused further comment.
However, corporate policy prohibits the spokespersons of either company to confirm or deny takeover reports — whether based on fact or fiction.
