An unauthorised promotion linking free condoms with Vodka Cruiser RTDs prompted a media storm yesterday.

Independent Distillers Australia (IDA), makers of the new low-calorie Vodka Cruiser in question, released a statement yesterday labeling the promotion ‘poor form’.

IDA Chairman, Doug McKay, said the campaign was an unauthorised one-off that had since been withdrawn.

“The placement of condoms in liquor outlets was an isolated action undertaken by a sales person, limited to 13 stores,” McKay said.

“We accept that it looks like poor form and I have directed this promotion and associated promotions to be withdrawn,” he said.

The tailor-made promotion comes on the back of a bad month for RTDs with the recent tax hikes and again puts them in the headlines.
