On our Wednesday (Feb 25) story ‘Fielding Backflips on RTD Tax Hike‘, TheShout reported Prime Minister Kevin Rudd had reneged on a promise he made in March last year to spend $53 million tackling binge drinking.

The Prime Minister had said at the time the money would go toward a grim reaper-style scare campaign and the funding of sports community sports clubs.

However, it has been brought to our attention that the Federal Government did in fact contribute $5.2 million — less than 10 per cent of the promised amount — to the Good Sports alcohol accreditation program.

The program aims to help sports clubs to control their use of alcohol and foster a welcoming climate for the whole community.
