Carlton & United Breweries has confirmed the appointment of experienced beer marketer Richard Oppy as the company's marketing director.

Oppy, who played a lead role in the launch of Carlton Dry and the relaunch of Victoria Bitter, has acted in the role since last year after he replaced former director Peter McLoughlin, who stepped down due to ill health.

Oppy says that turning around the beer category is one of the biggest challenges he and the team at CUB now face.

"We know we have to be bold when it comes to innovation and make sure we're nimble enough to deliver what drinkers want," Oppy said.

"We will also continue delivering value for our customers," he added.

CUB's Chief Operating Officer Mike Walsh added that Oppy has the experience and enthusiasm to lead the marketing team.

Walsh said: "Richard has worked across every brand in the business and I am confident he will passionately lead our marketing team and become valued member of our executive team."
