Archie Rose Master Distiller Dave Withers has been recognised on the global stage after being named Rest of the World Master Distiller/Master Blender of the Year at the World Whiskies Awards.

The awards also the Distillery’s Rye Malt Whisky named Category Winner for Rye Whisky 12 Years & Under, while the Archie Rose Single Malt Whisky collected a silver medal.

Speaking about his win, Withers told The Shout: “I’m really humbled to win this award amongst some excellent company. I feel very lucky to do what I love every day and create for a distillery which values innovation and encourages its people to fuel their passion with shared ideas allowing us to pump out spirits that people seem to love.”

In total Australian whiskies collected 68 Category Winner awards and medals at the event, highlighting just how well respected our whisky is becoming globally.

There was also some good news for Lark as it was named Rest of the World’s Sustainable Distillery of the Year.

Awards Director Anita Ujszaszi, said: “We must extend a heartfelt thanks to our judges, who all met online in dedicated tasting sessions to share their expertise and evaluate each sample individually. It’s been an incredible experience.

“We’ve been particularly impressed by submissions from some of the world’s newest distillers, many of which have been embracing innovative techniques to produce exceptional whiskies.”
