Diageo Australia has confirmed that Simon Tamke has been appointed to the commercial director role that was vacated when David Halliday left the business in September.

Tamke has been acting in the role since Halliday's departure and the official appointment is effective immediately.

Diageo Australia managing director, David Smith, said: "In the short time I’ve worked with Simon, he has shown himself to be a results driven leader with strong cross functional experience across sales, finance and supply.

"Simon’s great strength is his ability to leverage his broad understanding of the business with his strategic thinking capability and excellent relationships to achieve positive results for the business."

Since joining Diageo Australia in November 2012 Tamke has the role of state manager for SA/NT and head of third party before being promoted to head of key accounts in July 2013.

Diageo Australia said that since joining the company Tamke has delivered channel share growth over three financial years and led the development of Diageo's account management capability, based on best-practice benchmarks.
