As Footscray celebrates its 150th year, Raw Materials – The Studio has been working in conjunction with winemaker Neil Prentice and local Maribyrnong artists Carmel Riordan and Julie Ughetti to develop a commemorative bottle of wine that brings together the best of Footscray – gastronomy, art, culture and community.

The Mayor of the City of Maribyrnong, Cr Michael Clarke, said the 150th Anniversary of Footscray is a significant time in the history of the City’s history and the Footscray Ramato label captures the spirit of the community in the west.

“If there was ever a time to see such a tasteful intersection of art, culture, heritage and cuisine, its now, at the 150th Anniversary of Footscray. Along with the Raw Materials Studio, the artists involved in the Footscray Ramato have presented an artistic product that is not only visually enticing, it tells a little story to our community about Footscray’s history,” said Cr Clarke.

Produced by Prentice wines in Victoria’s Whitlands’, Ramato is a traditional style pinot gris where the juice is left in contact with the skins for about 6 hours to create extra depth in flavour and colour.

The wine label features ‘Containers, Yarraville’ by Carmel Riordan. The image represents the colourful, industrial side of Footscray and its’ working class roots. Renowned glass artist Julie Ughetti has captured another side of this great city, recycling a fractured bus shelter to produce a glass seal on each bottle, ensuring each wine bottle is unique.

All of the money raised will be going directly to local community projects. Only a limited quantity of this wine is available, so order promptly to secure your own piece of Footscray history.
