Gage Roads Brewing Co has announced the launch of its latest limited release beer, an Australian Strong Ale dubbed 'The Convict' to coincide with Australia Day 2013 celebrations.

Brewed with all Australian malt and hops, including Summer, Stella, Topaz, and Galaxy varieties, Gage Roads says The Convict is a 100 per cent Australian beer, and a fitting reference to the national day.

The beer comes in at 7.2 per cent ABV, which the brewer says is directly at odds with the traditional notion that only sessionable, lighter bodied beers are appropriate for the Australian summer.

"We wanted to this to be a head turner," said general manager of operations Aaron Heary.

"The name, the artwork, the style, everything about it is provocative."

'The Convict' will start hitting shelves early this month.

  1. Congratulations on a fine brew! Best malt ale I’ve had down under in the last 19 years since I left London in 1994. This stuff could compete in the Camden Hall Beer Festival. It knocks the sox off Druid’s Drip, Rat’s Knob, and various other nefarious malt ale labels.
Have you thought about going international with this? – you should! Good luck and keep brewing!
    Cheers, Richard
