Gateway Liquor, a Sydney-based liquor wholesaler has been placed into liquidation, following a general meeting of company members earlier this month.

The Gateway Liquor website states: “On 1 March 2024 Gateway Liquor Wholesalers Pty Ltd was placed into liquidation. Clifford Sanderson and John Gibbons of Dissolve were appointed as Joint and Several Liquidators.

“The company has ceased to trade as from the date of liquidation.

“Enquires should be directed to Calvin Wijaya via Calvin@dissolve.com.au.”

Gateway Liquor was a member of the National Independent Liquor Wholesalers Association (NILWA), and while some reports have suggested the Gateway announcement will present concerns for NILWA, Managing Director Martin O’Mara told The Shout, this was not the case and that while it is a difficult period right now, the association was positive about the future.

“The news regarding Gateway Liquor closing is a sad day for the liquor industry and highlights how tough the trading environment is for independents and how challenging on-premise wide range wholesaling can be,” O’Mara said.

“The owner and family, the management, and staff of Gateway have all worked incredibly hard to establish and grow their business. We acknowledge Gateway’s determinations to remain trading since 2012 and thank them for their support as NILWA members and we wish them all the very best.

“It’s play-on for us as we continue to provide services to our current wholesaler members and advertise to grow wholesaler membership too.”

Newcastle-based NILWA has recently launched on a new on-premise wholesale liquor solution for local venues, ‘Signature Drinks – Newcastle’ and The Shout will bring you more news on this launch next week.
