Halewood’s Australian arm has added Yardhead Whisky to its spirit portfolio.

The single malt Whisky is the first non-age declared spirit of its kind from John Crabbie & Co in Scotland. Founded in the 1800s, the company has a rich connection to its heritage. The name Yardhead comes from Crabbie’s original premises, and each bottle is matured in ex-bourbon casks sourced from the original sites that founder John Crabbie himself frequented as a blender and bottler.

Despite this connection to history, Yardhead is aimed at revolutionising the way single malts are enjoyed. Created for the younger generation, the lighter flavour caused by the distilling process makes it appealing to entry-level whisky drinkers.

Marketing Manager at Halewood Australia, Kelly Coughlan, said the new acquisition is set to disrupt the spirits category.

“Yardhead is the newest whisky brand on the market to be discovered. A brand steeped in heritage and Scottish distilling expertise, with a modern edge,” Coughlan said.

“We’re breaking boundaries within the category, by providing an accessible price point and an approachable way to enjoy the spirit. We recognize that dark spirits and classic cocktails are making a comeback, which is why we’re launching a single malt, made perfectly for mixing.”

Since entering the Australian market this year, Yardhead has already secured listings through Coles Liquor, with aims to expand more in the off-premise.

The launch of Yardhead comes with Halewood International’s investment in a new distillery, bringing single malt whisky production back to its roots in Leith, Edinburgh. The Bonnington distillery will be the new home for John Crabbie & Co whiskies, producing 3,500 casks of single malt per year.

It’s another example of valuing brand history, with the new distillery located only a few hundred metres away from the original site where John Crabbie matured, distilled and blended his whisky.

With 40 per cent ABV and retailing at $55, Yardhead is available from Halewood Australia now.
