Herradura is in the process of educating and rewarding bartenders and bars with a series of tequila master classes and dinners around the country.

As Mexico celebrates both the 200th anniversary of its Independence and 100th anniversary of its Revolution, Ruben Aceves, brand ambassador for Herradura, hosted the first of several tastings at establishment in Sydney on Monday (Aug 9).

That evening Bown-Forman, distributors of Casa Herradura in Australia, hosted bartenders and media at Cruise Bar and Restaurant where Ryan Gardam from Goldfish was named Herradura Golden Horseshoe Barman of the Year 2010, while Ivy took out the Herradura Golden Horseshoe Bar of the Year 2010 award.

Mikey Enright accepted the award for Ivy.

“What is most important for me is for people to forget the impressions of Tequila they have formed by drinking lower quality varieties,” said Aceves.

“Tequila in many ways is like Champagne or Scotch with many premium varieties and exquisite flavours.”

“Tequila is no different; it must come from a small part of Mexico where it is made from artisan methods of distillery,” he continued.

“I am looking forward to continuing to show Australians how to enjoy tequila as we Mexicans do.”

Tequila Master Classes over the next few days:

  • Perth – 1pm-3pm, Thursday 12th August – Tiger Lil’s, 437 Murray St, Perth
  • Adelaide – 1pm-3pm, Friday 13th August – Lion Hotel, 161 Melbourne St, North Adelaide
  • Melbourne – 1 pm-3pm, Monday 16th August – Sofitel, 25 Collins St, Melbourne
