Hickson House Distilling Co has launched its new limited-edition Harbour Bridge Gin Series, which will see a new gin released every year in the run-up the iconic landmark’s 100-year anniversary in 2032.

The inaugural release of the Harbour Bridge Gin Series commemorates the historic turning of the first sod in the Bridge’s construction, which happened in 1923.

Hickson House said of the Series: “The Harbour Bridge is closely connected to the Hickson House Distilling Co: Located in the heritage-listed Metcalfe Bond Store in the heart of Sydney, this building was used in the 1920s and 30s to store the timber and steel beams for the construction of the Bridge.

“Some of those original steel beams can still be found in the venue, where our award-winning Hickson House Gin is now being made at the foot of the Harbour Bridge.

“[The first gin in the series] is handmade by blending the base of our award-winning Hickson House Harbour Strength Gin with locally sourced botanicals, including Lemon Aspen and Lilly Pilly (which would have grown in the area during the time of the bridge’s construction).

“Boasting bold juniper notes balanced with bright citrus and subtle berry aromas, this vibrant, 42 per cent ABV gin comes to life in classic gin cocktails or in our refreshing Harbour Bridge Gin and Tonic signature drink.”

To celebrate this launch, Hickson House Distilling Co is offering consumers the chance to win one of three Ultimate Sydney Harbour Experiences with every purchase of Harbour Bridge Gin online or in-store.

The experience includes a Harbour Bridge Summit climb for two, a Hickson House distillery tour, and a $150 dining voucher.

Tasting notes for the gin describe a nose of “classic juniper base with earthy citrus notes”, then “bold juniper on the palate with balanced earthy citrus, soft sweetness and berry notes”, with a finish that is “deliciously dry, warm juniper carries through to a perfect finish”.

The gin will be available at all Barrelhouse venues and the Barrelhouse Cellars bottleshop in The Rocks and from May 8 it will also be available at Sydney Airport, in exclusive partnership with Heinemann Australia Tax & Duty Free.
