Vanguard Luxury Brands has just added Ilegal mezcal to its range. “Mezcal is a really hot category and bartenders love this brand so it’s a perfect fit,”  said James France of Vanguard.
Steve Myers, creator and owner of the Ilegal brand commented, “Ilegal has been available in Australia for a few years now but we got to the point where we needed national distribution.  We chose Vanguard because they are a national company with strong connections in the best bars across Australia.”
Ilegal Mezcal is a beautifully balanced vintage mezcal from in Tlacolula, Oaxaca Mexico.  It is made by a fourth generation mezcalero and his family using 500 year old methods.  It is reasonably priced and has three expressions:

Reposado:  aged for four months in new American oak.  Caramelised pear on the nose, agave, butterscotch and vanilla on the palate.  A light fruit finish  Velvety smokiness throughout.
Anejo:  Aged for 13 months in a combination of French oak and American oak.  Maple, clove and bitter orange aromas.  Dark chocolate and sweet agave on the palate.   Hint of chilli.  Rounded, rich and full.
