After 10 years as head of winemaking at Howard Park Wines, Janice McDonald will be leaving Burch Family Wines as Director of Winemaking this year.

Nic Bowen, who was announced Chief Winemaker at the winery in January this year, will oversee the winemaking at Burch Family Wines.

In a letter to the industry, Founder of Burch Family Wines, Jeff Burch, said: “Since 2011, Janice has been at the forefront of increasing the quality of our entire portfolio of wines here at Burch Family Wines. Her expertise and skill have been instrumental in both the domestic and international acclaim we have received over the last decade.

“Memorably, the release of our Jeté sparkling collection and the subsequent trophy for Best Australian Sparkling at the Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championships in London is thanks in large part to her brilliance in the winery.

“We have been equally fortunate to celebrate her industry success when she was crowned Winemaker of the Year by Gourmet Traveller Wine in 2018. A high honour she so rightly deserves.

“We offer our sincere thanks to Janice for her service and wish her all the best on her future winemaking endeavours. On behalf of the entire Burch family, thank you, Janice.”
