The South Australian vineyard picked up the accolade at the 30th edition of the Mundus Vini Grand International Wine Awards.

The flagship award formed part of a successful evening for Kilikanoon, which achieved nine gold medals, three silver medals and one ‘grand gold medal’, having submitted 15 wines for judging.

For Travis Fuller, Kilikanoon’s General Manager, this award marked the reward for the winery’s focus on quality and consistency.

“Receiving high scores and medals from Mundus Vini underscores the international appeal for Kilikanoon wines and is testament to our unrelenting focus on delivering impeccable quality and style across our portfolio,” Fuller said.

“The Mundus Vini International wine competition is a benchmark for the industry and is unique in bringing together a highly international and varied jury to taste and judge the thousands of wines submitted.”

Fuller stated that the vineyard was particularly proud of its ‘2019 Baudinet Blend Grenache, Shiraz, Mataro’ winning a ‘grand gold medal’ as less than one per cent of wines submitted reach this level, and only 43 such medals were awarded internationally.

“I am also delighted to see our Killerman’s Run wines receive gold medals. I truly believe the quality of a producer’s top wines can be judged on the quality of their entry level, and this demonstrates our commitment to excellence at every level,” Fuller commented.

“This portfolio success has culminated in Kilikanoon winning Best Australian Producer a staggering eight times and is an award we take great pride in! It motivates us to try and make our wines even better every vintage,” he concluded.

The Mundus Vini Grand International Wine Awards is one of the foremost wine competitions in the world, with over 12,000 wines submitted each year. The ceremony coincides with Prowein, perhaps the most important international wine fair, held every March in Dusseldorf. The awards themselves are judged by a panel of experts from the worlds of wine production, retail and journalism.

2022 marked the 30th edition of the Mundus Vini Awards, and was held in Meininger, Germany, with judging occuring between February 23-28.
